In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight (E.T.), renowned musician and longtime coach on NBC's "The Voice," John Legend, opened up about his decision to step away from the popular singing competition show.
Legend, who has been a staple on "The Voice" since Season 16 in 2019, shared that his departure comes at a time when he is balancing a multitude of personal and professional commitments. "My family's growing, I have a new album out, I'm going to be doing a little bit of touring, so it's probably better that I take a break," he explained.
Despite his decision to step back, Legend made it clear that this isn't the end of his relationship with "The Voice." He assured fans that he will be returning to the show eventually, just not for Season 23. "I love working with our artists, just seeing people's dreams come true through this show, giving them all the advice I've gotten over the years, helping them learn from all the experiences that I've had over the years," he said.
Legend is one of the most seasoned coaches on the show, having won Season 16 with Maelyn Jarmon. His departure leaves a significant gap in the coaching lineup, but his commitment to his family and other professional endeavors is understandable.
As for the future of "The Voice," Legend remains optimistic. He praised his fellow coaches, noting their talent and the competitive spirit they bring to the show. "We definitely battled back and forth when it came to the blind auditions and yeah, they've got the fire," he said, referring to his fellow coaches.
While Legend will be missed on Season 23, fans can rest assured that he plans to return to the show. In the meantime, he'll be busy with his growing family and other projects, including a new album and a tour.
"The Voice" continues to be a beloved platform for aspiring artists, and John Legend's contributions to the show will undoubtedly be remembered. We look forward to seeing him back on "The Voice" stage in the future.
